"Political parties in Pakistan fight on social media battlefield"

"Social media's influence prompts parties to weaponize strong narratives"

Social media has become a crucial battleground for political parties around the world. It not only provides politicians with a platform to connect with voters but also enables them to make the public feel heard. While Pakistani political parties initially relied on traditional means of communication like television and print media, the growing influence of social media prompted them to use it as a tool to build a strong narrative and connect with the masses.

In Pakistan, social media has become a means for politicians to engage in online debates and involve their supporters. While the country is still behind in using social media for democratic processes compared to developed countries, Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) initiated a revolution that changed the political landscape on social media. PTI's social media presence played a significant role in changing Imran Khan's dwindling popularity.

PTI's 8.4 million Twitter followers tower over PML-N's 2.4 million and PPP's 1 million followers. Other political parties have recognized the importance of social media and are catching up on the race of social media politics. However, PML-N still falls behind PTI in terms of its social media presence, and the economic crisis is only making it worse.

PPP's media cell has yet to make its presence count. The party is a significant player in Pakistani politics, with its chairperson as the foreign minister of Pakistan and a front-runner for the PM-ship. However, the communication wing is lagging in disseminating its party narrative and strengthening trust with the voter base.

Religious parties, often overlooked, have also been quick to utilize social media. For instance, Jamaat-e-Islami's social media campaign for the Karachi local government elections frightened PPP as well. The party's social media campaign cemented its position as a crucial player in Karachi politics.

While PTI has implemented its social media policies effectively, PML-N under Maryam Nawaz's leadership shows signs of leveling the playing field. In conclusion, social media has become a game-changer in Pakistani politics, and political parties are taking notice of its significance in shaping public opinion.
